Is This The Most Underrated Film On Disney+?
I love, love, LOVE this take. Bustle’s Allyson Koerner says Meet the Robinsons is the most underrated movie on Disney+.
Now, there are a LOT of films on Disney’s streaming service, many of which are classics. And because so many are Disney films, it’s hard to call them underrated.
But, if any Disney movie were to be correctly classified as underrated, Meet the Robinsons fits the bill.
Unexpected Twists of Fate
Koerner dissected Meet the Robinsons:
The animated film is based on William Joyce’s picture book “A Day With Wilbur Robinson” and follows a young orphan named Lewis, who not only desperately wants to be adopted, but is an extremely talented and intelligent inventor. Meet the Robinsons is definitely a great family movie and filled with Disney magic, but what makes it so unique are the many twists throughout. The movie isn’t what you think at first. Let’s just say there are unexpected twists of fate that just might surprise you and make you cry all at once.
Now, not wanting to be blinded by my dad-ness, I asked my oldest if he agreed with Bustle.
“Um. Yes. It is actually a really good movie,” said my wordy 10-year-old. And I totally agree.
Meet the Robinsons: Get Over Yourself
And so did Anne Hornaday, then of The Washington Post:
But the best thing about “Meet the Robinsons” is its story, which… happens to have an important moral: No matter how victimized, put upon, picked on or just plain unlucky you are — how most delicately to put this? — get over yourself. This lesson is delightfully delivered by the film’s fabulous villain, a spiky, improbably balletic creature named Bowler Hat Guy… By far the most memorable character in a film that at times seems to feature a cast of thousands.
Again, I totally agree.
And, I would put Meet the Robinsons in the same category as Tomorrowland or Big Hero Six; a film that really put the futurism of Walt Disney back on the table.
Keep Moving Forward
Koerner, explained:
The fact that Meet the Robinsons focuses on “keep moving forward,” something Walt believed in, makes this movie all the more special.
So, go make sure you read Allyson’s terrific piece and revisit Meet the Robinsons with your family, soon.
