Disney+ Is Winning The Streaming Race While Families Stuck at Home During COVID-19 Outbreak
With families stuck at home and school out of session, people are turning to streaming networks to help get us through the COVID-19 quarantine. So how is Disney’s new streaming network stacking up against other industry giants!? Relatively well according to a recent piece that appeared in Yahoo Finance.
An analytics platform know as EDO, Inc. recently surveyed 6,800 Americans from March 24 to March 28 to find out where they’re getting their content from. The result of the analysis was that 85% of those surveyed said they’re streaming more since the coronavirus outbreak. A fifth of this group said that they’ve also taken out a new subscription while at home last month.
Disney is benefited from these new subscription rates as Disney+ and Hulu received the largest number of new subscribers with Disney at 29% and Hulu at 21%.
Take a look at how this stacks up against other streaming networks with this handy graphic.
Even before the COVID-19 outbreak, streaming services were increasingly becoming a part of everyday life. Nielsen recently released a report suggesting that streaming now makes up 19% of total TV usage.
Though Disney+’s competitive prices is starting to make it a real streaming contender other services have recently upped their game during the coronavirus outbreak to entice new viewers. For instance, HBO recently released an additional 500 hours of TV shows including Sopranos, Veep, and The Wire.
And though Disney is showing strong numbers when it comes to new subscribers, Netflix still reigns supreme with over 59 million downloads in the first quarter of the year.
We’ll continue to watch Disney +’s progress closely so keep following along with MickeyBlog for the latest Disney news and updates!
