‘Frozen 2’ On Target For Record Breaking Opening of $128 Million

If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog then you already know that the much-anticipated sequel in the Frozen franchise is already breaking box office records! Domestic box office numbers are still rolling in after a bustling Black Friday but estimates are that Frozen 2 has had a record-breaking weekend with estimates suggesting it has grossed over $128 million at the box office after a mighty impressive $34 million on Friday. It played on over 4,440 screens.

This means that as of going to print the film has already surpassed the holiday record held by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire which earned $109.9 million in its second weekend back in 2013.

As the sequel approaches $292 million by the end of Sunday, it will bring in approximately 37% more than the 5-day Thanksgiving opening of the original Frozen. As it currently stands, Frozen 2 should pass its predecessor’s $400 million domestic total well before its Christmas holiday competition arrives in cinemas starting with “Jumanji: The Next Level” on Dec. 13.

Their quest is to find the origin of Elsa’s frosty powers saving Arendelle in the process.
