Disney Iffy on Release of X-Men-New Mutants
When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox earlier this year, along with it came all of the productions that the Fox was currently working on. According to various online sources, there is one in particular that Disney is feeling a bit iffy about and that’s the upcoming X-Men release: “New Mutants.” With “Dark Phoenix” failing to impress earlier this year, Disney is concerned with the new flick slated to be released on August 2, 2019.
According to a recent piece in Variety, this “X-Men” spinoff has a horror genre sort of vibe making Disney worried about the films box office potential. “New Mutants” was originally slated for a Spring 2019 release date but this has been pushed back. Current information online suggests we can expect the film in August but we’re already hearing word that it may not be released until April of next year.
According to a recent piece on Comicbook.com the pushing back of the films release date is largely due to re-shoots. X-Men franchise producer Simon Kinberg said this in a recent interview with Digital Spy, “What’s happening is we’re gonna do reshoots this year on that film and it has a new release date from Disney. Part of it was figuring out what the reshoots were gonna be, the pick-ups, and the other part of it was getting that cast back together.”
Still, it would seem that Disney’s feeling regarding the film is lukewarm, to say the least. It will be interesting to see when the project does make it to the theaters and whether it will be subjected to a limited-release schedule as a result of a lack of confidence in the project.
