Disney Commits $500,000 To California Wildfire Aid
The Walt Disney Company announced on Wednesday, November 14th, that they are donating $500,000 to the victims of California’s recent deadly wildfires. The money will go to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund and the California Fire Foundation.
The firefighters are true heroes, and we honor their tireless commitment as they continue to battle these devastating wildfires,” said Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. “Our hearts go out to the families and communities that have been so severely affected.”
The donation is earmarked to provide “support to firefighters on the front lines as they work to contain the fires and will assist California residents during this difficult time” said Disney.
In addition to the donation announced today, contributions from Disney employees to eligible relief and recovery organizations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.
The wildfires that have ripped through Northern California are the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California’s history. The Camp Fire is one of two major blazes burning in California that have left at least 58 people dead.
The other is the Woolsey Fire in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, which has killed at least two people and destroyed nearly 500 homes. Hundreds of people poured Wednesday into the Northern California communities ravaged by the deadly Camp Fire, searching for human remains while authorities tried to track down 130 people who are unaccounted for after the blaze.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of California.
