National Creamsicle Day at Disney Parks
As certain as a 180 minute + wait at Flight of Passage, the middle day of the very hottest month of the year is guaranteed to be as scorching hot across most of the country as it is standing in the outdoor portion of that queue line. This August has been off to a much warmer start than I remember in recent years, and air conditioning-hopping is the hot new trend among us folks sweating it out in the stifling city.
I can handle a little heat, but the severity of the wave hit home when I came home to a new animal skin rug that I didn’t remember buying…that was actually my cat so flatly sprawled out from the heavy air…we needed to cool down!
National Creamsicle Day is about the most appropriately timed National Day all year (props to whoever placed it in the center of August). When it’s too hot for straight ice cream but you can’t kick that creamy texture craving, I learned early on that a little orange and white pop on a stick is just about the most invigorating treat you can reach for during the dog days of summer, so let’s find out where you can find the best creamsicles at the Disney Parks before school is back in session!
Walt Disney World
- Orange Cream Float– Sunshine Seasons at Magic Kingdom Park is known for its extremely long lines and insanely tasty Dole Whips. There is nary a time that you won’t find fellow guests lining up for their very own twisted frozen treat, but on August 14th, there was another option you should have considered: orange cream cup. A twist on the classic popsicle set up, the orange cream cup swirls Dole Orange soft serve with vanilla ice cream for a nostalgia-inducing treat that will cool you off in 5 minutes flat!
- Orange Creamsicle Float– Keeping things at Walt Disney World for now, head to Beaches and Cream Soda Shop for an adults-only take on the classic treat. This nontraditional indulgence didn’t sound like the most appealing thing on the menu when I first discovered it a few years back, but the combo of Angry Orchard Orange with vanilla ice cream floating in the sweetly and subtly orange cider makes for a great mid-afternoon pick me up when you need a break from the pool.
- Coca-Cola Store- High above Disney Springs, the rooftop of the Coca-Cola Store offers one of the best views of the new shopping and dining destination. Make your way up the glass-enclosed ramp all the way to the rooftop where they’re serving Coke float flights that are as adorable as they are tasty! You can choose to sample eclectic flavors or stick to the classics, but you really can’t go wrong since each pour is topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Disneyland
- Creamsicle Beer Float- Okay West Coasters, it’s your turn. Clarabelle’s over at Disney’s California Adventure is the stop for hand-scooped cups, cones, and sundaes, and it’s always on my list of must-do’s when I make my way out West. If I’m being honest, I always opt for a hand-scooped cup or cone of some sort, but I know I’m in the vast minority. Disney buffs will tell you to go for the ice cream bars, and the chefs who created the Creamsicle Beer Float knew well enough to include the scoop shops’ most popular menu item in their new drink! Henry’s Hard orange soda + vanilla ice cream bar = creamsicle heaven.
Dreamsicle Beignets– If nothing else, the heat outside is letting me know that summer is here and isn’t showing any signs of leaving us yet, thankfully! Disney, on the other hand, is already preparing for Halloween, and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party has already started over at Walt Disney World Resort…crazy! Creamsicle fans looking for a different way to enjoy the treat should keep an eye out for the return of Dreamsicle Beignets in California. The classic beignets trade their usual powdered sugar coat for an outfit of subtly citrus-flavored sugar that drives home the creamsicle flavor combo without half of the mess!
