Exciting Activities at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Hidden amongst the trees near the Magic Kingdom and probably one of Disney World’s forgotten resorts are the Cabins and Campgrounds at Fort Wilderness. Before discovering this resort, I had been visiting Disney World since I was six years old and never knew this place existed. If you’re looking for a different type of Disney vacation, Fort Wilderness Resort is a new adventure that awaits you and your family. There are many different types of activities you and your family can participate in without ever leaving the resort.
Where it is
Fort Wilderness Resort is located right next to the Seven Seas Lagoon with Magic Kingdom located directly on the other side. If you’re a fan of water activities, Disney Cast Members are located at the Fort Wilderness Marina where you can sign up for a fishing excursion, rent a motorized boat, or play volleyball at the beach. At night, you can pull up a beach chair and watch the Electric Water Pageant with an awesome view of the new Nighttime Fireworks show, “Happily Ever After”. Trust me, it is so much better than watching it with your head at a 90° angle on a crowded Main Street and Magic Kingdom.
Fun Activities to Enjoy
If you’re looking for water activities, but in a smaller pond than the Seven Seas Lagoon, guests can make their way to the Bike Barn, located in the center of Fort Wilderness, and rent canoes and kayaks for a nice relaxing row through the resort.
While you’re at the Bike Barn, take a look at some of the other activities offered at Fort Wilderness Resort, such as bike rentals, cane pole rentals for fishing and archery. Ever since I watched the movie, “Brave”, I have wanted to shoot a bow and arrow. Can you imagine how cool you would look shooting a bow and arrow like Robin Hood? Okay, in my mind, I look like Robin Hood.
Sing, Sing a Song
Once the sun has gone down and you need to relax after a day at the theme park, make your way to the Meadows Trading Post for a Sing-a-Long with the most famous duo on the planet, Chip ‘n Dale. Funny trivia, did you know you can tell them apart because Chip’s nose looks like a chocolate chip and Dale has the red nose?
Every night you have the opportunity to sing along with Chip ‘n Dale to well-known campfire songs like “Hokey Pokey” and “Home on the Range”. Once the sing-a-long is complete, Chip ‘n Dale will make their way through the audience to meet and greet with guests in attendance. I am pretty sure there is a photo of me with Chip ‘n Dale floating around the internet somewhere. One of the most spectacular campfires I ever attended was the night before Halloween and I had a chance to see the Headless Horseman ride and go trick-or-treating. I went trick-or-treating; not the Headless Horseman. Trust me, you’re never too old.
Snacks, Snacks, and More Snacks
And who can forget the best part of a campfire, roasting marshmallows to make gooey s’mores. Before the sing-a-long, the campfire is lit and guests can grab a stick and proceed to roast their marshmallows to make s’mores. Most guests will usually bring their own, but s’more kits are available for purchase at the Meadows Trading Post. Other snacks and beverages such as hot dogs, sodas, and popcorn are available at the Meadows Trading Post. Once the meet and greet is over, relax on the bleachers or the wooden benches to watch the nightly “Movie Under the Stars.
One of the most unique things about Fort Wilderness Resort are the guests. Guests will drive their RVs across country and park it at Fort Wilderness Resort for months. There are even people who have been there for years. Can you imagine calling Walt Disney World your home away from home? Yeah? I can too.
