Avengers Infinity War is Here!
Infinity War is here. Are you ready? If you’ve done your preparations, the universe will reward you. Well, at least the Marvel Universe will! If you’re not ready, it’s not a big deal; I’m only talking about a superhero movie after all! Avengers: Infinity War is Marvel’s newest blockbuster, starring practically every superhero in existence. The Marvel superfans who never miss a premiere have been (unknowingly) preparing for this film for years because each and every Marvel film in existence is a prequel to Infinity War. It sounds intimidating because it is. I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen every single Marvel movie out there, but after a consultation with a Marvel expert (read: my superhero-crazed friend) I’m feeling a bit more confident! There is still time to catch up and be ready for the events of Infinity War by choosing the movie prep guide that’s right for you!
If You’ve Seen Every Marvel Movie…
You are good to go!
If You’ve Seen Some Marvel Movies…
If you’ve been diligent enough to keep up with the restless machine that is Marvel Studios, you’re probably prepared enough to see Infinity War without being too confused. The Avengers, Age of Ultron, and Civil War are all must-sees before you stand in line for popcorn, but that’s just scratching the surface! If you don’t have time to watch every single Marvel movie, you don’t have to! These are the films you should focus on:
- Avengers
- Avengers: Age of Ultron
- Captain America: The First Avenger
- Captain America: Civil War
- Iron Man
- Iron Man 2
- Spider-Man Homecoming
- Thor: The Dark World
- Guardians of the Galaxy
It seems like a dauntingly long list…but don’t worry! If you’re familiar with the Marvel Universe at all, you’ve probably seen at least a few of these films. The preceeding Avengers films are must-sees for obvious reasons, and the original Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and Spider-Man films events’ are too important to skip. You can, however, easily go into Infinity War without having seen Ant Man and Black Panther– though it was hard for me to leave the latter off the list since it’s so darn good. I’m really excited about the Guardians of the Galaxy’s appearance in the film, but it’ll be interesting to see how the unique tone and humor used in that movie sits with the tone of the rest of the Marvel world. If you don’t know what I’m referencing; definitely put Guardians of the Galaxy on the top of your must-watch list!
If You Haven’t Seen any Marvel Movies…
This isn’t the ideal situation, but I’m a believer that you can still catch up enough to not be totally lost when you sit down in the theatre for Infinity War! Since you’ve never seen any Marvel film, the best you can do is cover the basics. Unless you don’t have a single obligation and can veg out on the couch and marathon-watch the entire canon (I’m jealous), here are the films you should see before Infinity War:
- The Avengers
- Iron Man
- Captain America: Civil War
- Guardians of the Galaxy
I think these 4 films will set you up best for Infinity War. The Avengers is on the list for obvious reasons. Iron Man does a great job of introducing us to Tony Stark and how he fits into all of this. Captain America is essentially the face of the Avengers, so watching the first in that series is a must. Guardians of the Galaxy is not only a great movie to watch just for fun, but its success in breaking the superhero film mold by using unconventional humor, pop music, and a uniquely ‘cute’ tone is important to understand before Infinity War to avoid confusion when Star Lord and Gamora start their inevitable flirty-yet-funny banter.
If You Have Time for One Marvel Movie…
- The Avengers
I’ve become a much bigger fan of the Marvel films as of late, especially since the releases of Spider-Man Homecoming and Black Panther. In my opinion, those two rank right up there with the original Avengers film, but their events aren’t important in preparation for Infinity War. Honestly, if you go into Infinity War not having seen a single preceding film, you’ll be very confused, but if you watch The Avengers…I think you’ll have get everything you need from that film to understand Infinity War enough to enjoy it right alongside the biggest of Marvel fans.
