5 Must-Do Activities at Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa
If your travels take you to Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa on Ko Olina on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, you are in store for an amazing experience. Here are 5 must-do activities on your visit to Aulani.
Enjoy a private snorkeling experience at Rainbow Reef
Aulani features a man-made saltwater lagoon which is home to thousands of tropical fish. Snorkeling enthusiasts have the opportunity to swim in the lagoon and see all of the wondrous marine life up-close. This is a great experience for first-time snorkelers as the man-made lagoon offers a safe environment without unpredictable waves and currents. For those who are not quite ready to get up-close & personal with the fish, there is a viewing window for family and friends to watch the snorkelers. Guests should note that the water might feel a tad cool as it must mimic the natural environment of the fish. Therefore, the Rainbow Reef temperature is kept at approximately 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Snorkeling equipment is included with the entrance fee, and children ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Spend a day in paradise at Laniwai Spa
For a truly relaxing and rejuvenating experience, spend a morning or afternoon is Laniwai Spa, a full-service spa, salon and fitness center. There are a multitude of spa therapies from which to choose. Perhaps, though, the most impressive part of the spa is the outdoor hydrotherapy garden which is complimentary with any full-service spa treatment. The outdoor garden is home to various soaking pools, waterfall rain showers, whirlpool spas and more. Private vitality baths are available for an additional fee. Guests will want to bring their bathing suits and give themselves extra time before and after their spa treatments to enjoy all of the amenities that Laniwai has to offer. You will never want to leave!
Swim and play at Waikolohe Pool & Stream and the Beach at Ko Olina Lagoon
Waikolohe Pool & Stream are probably the highlights of the entire Aulani Resort. Waikolohe is actually Hawaiian for “mischievous water.” There is certainly something for everyone here. Guests of the resort will be given a daily wristband that will allow them complimentary towels and access to the pool areas. Once inside, there are plenty of lounge chairs spread throughout the entire area for guests to use at their leisure. In addition to the pools, there is a lazy river and two rapid adventure slides. Usually in the afternoon, our favorite Disney friends visit for a poolside party. There is also a private pool for adults looking for a little rest and relaxation. For an extra fee, poolside cabanas are available for rent.
The Beach at Aulani is located along the Ko Olina Lagoon which is serene and picturesque. Guests can enjoy a relaxing day lounging in one of the numerous lounge chairs along the beach or take a swim in the gentle ocean water. In addition, there is equipment such as paddleboards and snorkels available for rent at Makiki Joe’s Beach Equipment Rentals.
Check out the new Lu’au at Aulani: Ka Wa’a
Resorts guests now have the opportunity to experience an authentic Hawaiian Lu’au adventure without having to leave Aulani. Admittedly, the lu’au was not available during my visit; rather, it opened shortly thereafter. Guests are invited to the Halawai Lawn around 5:00pm for pre-show activities such as flower arranging. An authentic island buffet dinner is offered with a suckling pig and prime rib among other offerings including children’s selections. The performance begins after dinner and explores the cultural roots of Ko Olina and ancient Hawaii. There are two seating packages available: VIP Seating and General Admission. Take in the scenery while enjoying live music
As night descends upon the tropical paradise known as Aulani, you will want to stop and take in the beautiful sights of the resort. Live music around the resort entices you to sit down and relax for a few moments to really soak in the scenery. The Olelo Room offers live music performed on the patio each evening (weather permitting) and overlooks the koi pond beside the Waikolohe Valley pool area. Off the Hook is a laid-back lounge overlooking the beach and is adjacent to the pool area. Live Hawaiian music is performed Monday – Thursday evenings, typically.
A vacation to Aulani Resort & Spa is a vacation like no other! These are only some of the various activities available at the resort itself. Visitors should talk to their travel agents to learn more of what Aulani has to offer.
