Your First Look at the Star Wars Land Model for Walt Disney World and Disneyland
Here’s your first look at the Star Wars Land Model revealed Thursday night (7/13/2017) at the D23 expo! Star Wars Land appears to be set to open sometime in 2019 for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. These lands have Star Wars fans anxiously awaiting the opening. If waits for Flight of Passage in Pandora were four and five hours long, we can’t imagine what the wait times will be when Star Wars Land finally opens!
Guests at the D23 expo stood in anticipation behind a black curtain tonight. As Star Wars music played, the back curtain dropped and a lot of “oohs” and “ahs” could be heard from the crowd as they got their first glance at the Star Wars Land model.
According to the Disney Parks Blog, “Both Star Wars-inspired lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before Wild Space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.”
Disney Parks Blog proceeds by informing us that “uests will find themselves in the middle of the action at two signature attractions: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
The Star Wars-themed lands were first announced by The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger two years ago at the D23 Expo in 2015.
In Disneyland, Star Wars Land is being built to the north of Frontierland, where Big Thunder Ranch and backstage areas were previously located. Because of the expansion, Disney went through the process of purchasing nearby properties to relocate the office and warehouse space that used to be on the land.
In Walt Disney Word’s Hollywood Studios, Star Wars Land will be replacing most of the park’s Streets of America. Star Wars Land will be part of a major expansion of the park that will include the much anticipated Toy Story Land.
While Star Wars Land is still a bit away, you can still experience all the magic at Disneyland and Walt Disney World with Jedi Training, Star Wars Launch Bay, Star Tours, and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, among other great attractions and character meet & greets!
