7 Best Disney Books for Summer Reading
No matter how old we are, generations alike are always enthralled with the tales and fantasy of Disney’s stories. So much so that even though we get to witness all of our most beloved characters and plot twist on the television screen, we still make room in our crazy schedules to squeeze in a few Disney books here and there.
From the timeless and classic novels that inspired Disney to create some of their best hits, to the movie-themed children’s picture books that help our little ones fall asleep with each turn of the page—there’s a read for all. While we love to see our favorite stories in action, there is something to be said about letting our minds carry us away and live out our favorite tales in our head. As we read through each word and imagine each scene. Below we’ll discuss a few of our must-read and best Disney books for all ages.
For Kids:
Winnie The Pooh
Christopher Robin will take you back to the Hundred Acre Woods—and bring along your little one with you. What could be better than sharing one of your favorite Disney books from your childhood with your own child? Reminisce and retell your most-loved stories with characters like Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Rabbit as your read through the Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.
The Little Mermaid
Enjoy life under the sea while happily on land. From Golden Books, this story of The Little Mermaid, tells the tale of Ariel as she explores the ocean and discovers life on land and what happens when she falls in love with a human. Peter Pan
There’s something to be said about never wanting to grow up, as work and responsibilities continue to climb. Why not share this wonderful story of Peter and Wendy with those who still have time to happily be a kid? For Teens:
Holes
While not one of the traditional Disney books, Holes is a story by Louis Sachar about a boy who gets sent to a juvenile facility after being accused of committing a crime. Every day the boys of the camp have to go out and dig a hole. As mysteries and uncovered secrets start spreading, the story gets juicer by the page. Bonus! Once you’ve finished reading, you can watch the Disney original movie inspired by the book starring Shia Labeouf.
The Chronicles of Narnia
Everyone’s favorite movies that were co-produced by Disney were inspired by the classic stories (seven in total) of C.S. Lewis. The tales of the Aslan, the White Witch, and Mr. Tumnus as they adventure through a captivating story of a new land far away. But while the movies are exciting and entertaining, they only cover a few of C.S. Lewis’ stories and leave out characters like Father Christmas. To really immerse yourself in all things Narnia, try reading all seven of C.S. Lewis’ iconic novels.
For Adults:
Hunchback of Notre Dame
A staple narrative by Victor Hugo, this book takes place in medieval Paris. While not a completely reflective novel, like most Disney books, think of the version by Disney rated G, while Hugo adds a little PG-13 twist. You see all of our favorite characters like Quasimodo and Esmeralda, but are missing everyone’s favorite Gargoyles, but hey, now we know where they get their names Victor and Hugo from!
