Photos Released Of Sigourney Weaver Filming Underwater Stunt For ‘Avatar 2’
Since we still have a while to go until we once again get to hang out with the Na’vi in ‘Avatar 2’ we LIVE for the sneak peeks that Jon Landau posts to Instagram. They provide some awesome insights as to the size and scale of this incredible project which from all we’ve seen will definitely be worth the wait!
One of the things that has us super excited about the sequel is that we do know that Sigourney Weaver will be making a return. Though we aren’t sure as of yet who or what she’ll be playing Jon Landau has teased her involvement in the project more than once! The 70-year-old star played Dr. Grace Augustine in the 2009 original movie who was killed by Quaritch.

What we do know that is that Sigourney will be playing a slightly different character and from the images above, it looks like she’ll be underwater ALOT! One of the images shows Weaver in all-out action mode while the other shows the star emerging from the water in her motion capture suit.
Landau wrote in the caption, “Sigourney has never been one to shy away from an action scene.”

Previously released photos (like the one above) have show actors taking part in lots of underwater filming including Kate Winslet, Britain Dalton, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.

As you can see from the image above, much of the takes place in a 900,000 gallon tank that was created especially for the filming. The filming, which is taking place in New Zealand, was put on hold during the COVID-19 crisis but with fewer cases in the country they have been able to start back up.
Avatar 2 is now slated to hit theaters in December 2022 with subsequent films being released every two years through until 2028. The details about the plot remain scarce, Landau has revealed that Jake and Neytiri’s family will be a key element of the Avatar sequels.
