BREAKING NEWS: Tokyo Disney Parks Set Opening Date
Last but not least, it’s Tokyo Disneyland! That’s right, in a week filled to the brim with park reopening announcements including Disneyland and Disneyland Paris, the announcement was made that Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will be opening on July 1st.
Like other Disney parks worldwide, Tokyo Disney has been shuttered for the past four months due to COVID-19 but with Japan gradually reopening, the theme parks operators are making a move to get both parks up and running.

According to a recent piece in JapanToday, Oriental Land which owns the property has said that the resorts will resume operations next month with a limited number of visitors who bought reserved tickets online. As we’ve seen at other Disney parks, Tokyo Disney will enforce social distancing measures including temperature checks and mandatory face masks.
“We will operate the parks with caution” by restricting the number of guests and on individual rides, as well as cleaning and social distancing efforts, Oriental Land said in a statement.
Last month, a group of Japanese park owners (including Oriental Land) put forth guidelines on how to operate the theme parks safely with active COVID-19 cases still happening worldwide. As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, most of the measures taken will be similar to those at other Disney parks including increased sanitation measures, social distancing in line queues etc. However, there are also so interesting measures exclusive to Tokyo Disney parks that including asking guests to “refrain from vocalising loudly” on rollercoasters. – Yup that’s right, no screaming!
Tokyo Disney parks closed in late February as the pandemic swept across the country and world. As JapanToday tells us, Japan did see a surge of infections earlier this year which prompted the government to close schools along with theme parks, large events etc. until the virus was brought under control.
Over 30 million visitors visit Tokyo Disney each year making the resort one of the most popular destinations for guests visiting Tokyo. Before the closure, Tokyo Disney was set to undergo a major expansion. However, as of going to print, Oriental Land said it hasn’t yet decided when to unveil plans for an expansion of Tokyo Disneyland.
