‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ is Disney’s First Song in 29 Years to Hit No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100
Clearly establishing itself as one of the biggest Disney hits in recent memory, Encanto has established a fandom that has taken on a life of its own; while it has catapulted the films most popular song to heights previously unseen by nearly every Disney soundtrack,
The Encanto soundtrack as a whole is spending its third week at No. 1 on the overall album chart, with “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” establishing itself as one of the biggest surprises of the current music landscape.
Achieving successes that even the cult classic Frozen single “Let It Go” could fathom, the chart-topping Encanto hit “We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ is Disney’s first song in 29 years to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The adored single joins the rare accolade with “A Whole New World,” the Aladdin single that topped the same Billboard Hot 100 chart back in 1993.
What makes the accomplishment all the more incredible is that “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” become the first Hot 100 top place holder to be written by a single composer since Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect,” in 2022; with Encancto’s groundbreaking hit being penned by Lin Manuel-Miranda.
What makes the achievement that much more intriguing is that “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” found chart-topping success without the added benefit of a strong radio presence.
In an age that has seen traditional radio stations sacrificed for playlists and streaming services, the success of Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” feels more and more like a fantastic anomoly.
The only true competition in the last decade for the current smash hit is the preciously mentioned “Let It Go,” which despite its incredible perseverance among pop-cultural only got as high as no. 5 on the Billboard Top 100.
There appears to be no end in sight for the generational defining hits on from the Encanto soundtrack, and one can only ponder just how far the hit single can remain atop the charts.
