Disney World Gets Sued Over PeopleMover Collision at Magic Kingdom
According to a recent piece in the Orlando Sentinel, Disney is heading back into the courtroom, this time over two lawsuits that have sprung up around PeopleMover collisions that took place within days of each other back in 2018.
Both people suing in these separate instances are Florida residents. The first is Stacy Burdick of Pasco County and the second Eric Cintron of Broward County. The lawsuits were filed separately in Orange County Circuit Court with each seeking in excess of $30,000 in damages.
According to the lawsuit filed by Burdick, her collision dates back to June 23, 2018, at the Magic Kingdom. According to Burdick’s lawyer Jim Mancuso, the plaintiff was riding in the rear of the tram when the train unexpectedly stopped early in the ride. It paused for a moment and then restarted. During this time, Burdick’s tram collided with the one in front causing Burdick to be seriously injured. According to Mancuso, Burdick needed to have spinal surgery and the collision has had far-reaching effects on her life.
Moving on to Cintron’s lawsuit, the event was said to occur on June 27, 2018, in a sequence of events similar to Burdicks. According to reports, the PeopleMover stalled and then restarted again, crashing into the tram ahead. Cintron’s lawyer has yet to publicly comment on the suit or detail injuries.
As the Orlando Sentinel tells us, this two of a handful of lawsuits that have been filed over the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover which opened in 1975.
