Tokyo Disneyland Extends Closure Due to Coronavirus
Here at MickeyBlog, we’ve been monitoring the impact that the Coronavirus is having on Disney theme parks worldwide and wanted to share an update regarding the closure at Tokyo Disney Resort.
Tokyo Disney has announced that they will be extending its shutdown through until at least early April. This extension was in response to a call by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to extend cancellations of large events for at least another 10 days because of concerns over the continued spread of the virus.
Originally Tokyo Disney reported that the parks would remain closed until March 15th. This coincided with the news that a recently expanded “New Fantasyland” at Tokyo Disneyland which cost a mightly $720 million will postpone its grand opening until Mid-May.
According to a recent piece on Bloomberg news, it was reported that the showdown is just one of many steps Japan is taking to curb the virus. The closure of Tokyo Disneyland may even become a record-holder. The longest shutdown at Tokyo Disneyland was 34 days and Tokyo DisneySea was shuttered for 47 days due back in 2011 after the return of the Tsunami.
