‘The Mandalorian’ Was 2020’s Most Pirated Show
It’s no surprise that the ever-so-popular Star Wars spin-off series, The Mandalorian, was the most pirated show in 2020. The Mandalorian airs on the streaming service Disney+, and many people simply don’t want to pay for a subscription.
Since the theme parks shut down in March, Disney has switched gears and now sees streaming TV as the central part of its business. During the investor’s presentation last week CEO Bob Chapek revealed that the streaming network had surpassed expectations and already has 86.8 subscribers. That means it is nearing the corner on 90 million which Disney announced at the launch Disney+ that it was hoping to hit four years in.
Sources close to the production have confirmed that creator Jon Favreau has been “writing season 3 for a while,” and that the art department, led by Lucasfilm vice president and executive creative director Doug Chiang, has been creating concepts for Season 3 “for the past few weeks.” “We’ve just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for the Mandalorian in Season 3,” revealed one source.
In addition, another source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that the production design department began working on season 3 on April 20, pointing to the fact the department requires “such a huge lead time” to explain why “the gears have started grinding really early on.”
