Families Aren’t Cancelling Disney Cruises Out of Port Canaveral Despite Coronavirus
With concern over the Coronavirus weighing heavily on most travellers minds, many companies are bracing to see what impact the virus will have on travel plans during the peak Spring Break period. However, according to a recent piece on ClickOrlando, it seems to be business as usual over at Port Canaveral where three cruise ships departed from the terminal yesterday.
Among those departing was the Disney Dream, heading out for its four-night cruise of the Bahamas including stops at Disney’s Castaway Cay and Nassau.
One passenger, Tracy Smathers told Click Orlando, “I can’t believe how it’s been so blown out of proportion and I’m certainly not worried about it.” The grandmother from North Carolina said that her family trusts Disney when it comes to the cruise line’s commitment to sanitizing ships and screening passengers.
Among the pre-cautions currently being implemented at Port Canaveral terminal, all cruisers are having temperatures checked and monitored for flu-like symptoms. Any passengers showing potential symptoms will be kept from embarking.
Trever Walter, another passenger travelling with his family on Monday told ClickOrlando, “There’s obviously a concern with everything going on but it’s one of those things that take the proper precautions, kind of leave it in God’s hands.”
in terms of Port Canaveral’s official stance in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak, they released the following official statement:
“Port Canaveral is at normal operations as we continue to monitor the COVID-19 developing situation closely.
We are working closely with our cruise partners on contingency plans with operational alternatives, should the need arise. We are also maintaining regular communication with federal and state authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control, U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Department of Health, to make sure our policies and procedures meet or exceed their guidelines for virus spread prevention, containment, and mitigation.
We have further refined our operational tactics to ensure our preparedness as situations may evolve, including increasing the scale and frequency of environmental cleaning and disinfecting with an EPA registered, hospital-grade disinfectant at all of our cruise terminals, Port buildings common areas and public areas.
The Port is prepared to navigate through these challenging circumstances with the safety and well-being of our extended community at the forefront of our efforts.”
