Mickey Mouse Through the Years: The Significance of ‘Runaway Railway’
The opening of ‘Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway’ is almost here! The addition of a Mickey & Minnie Mouse themed attraction is long overdue for the Disney Parks. As we approach opening day, here are some facts about Mickey Mouse through the years, including Walt Disney and his love of trains. For a more detailed highlight reel, visit Walt Disney World News.
Mickey Mouse Through the Years
Mickey Mouse’s big debut was in 1928 with the release of Steamboat Willie. Between 1928 and 1953 the Walt Disney Studio created 130 animated shorts starring Mickey himself. The Fantasia short from 1940 became such an elaborate project that it evolved into Mickey Mouse’s first feature film.
The Mickey Mouse Club ran from 1955 to 1959 and quickly became a family favorite in homes across America. The show has been revived over the years but the success of the original program has never been matched.
Modern Mickey Mouse
After The Mickey Mouse Club, it would be 30 years before any new Mickey Mouse animation would be created. Walt Disney’s focus on the Disney theme parks and his death in 1966 put a halt to new cartoons. The 1980s and 1990s introduced new classics such as Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Prince and the Pauper, and Runaway Brain.
The History of Minnie Mouse
Mickey wouldn’t have gone very far without his best girl by his side. Minnie Mouse has been a part of Disney’s history since the release of Steamboat Willie in 1928. Since then, the pair have starred in countless cartoon shorts and films together. You can enjoy the complete library of Mickey Mouse cartoons on Disney+.
Sound Innovation and Railroads
Each step of Walt Disney’s career found him pushing the boundaries of technology. His cartoons and films were the pinnacles of innovation at the time. Additionally, Walt Disney found himself infatuated with trains and railways. From the train he took to Hollywood to launch his career, to the train he built in his backyard, and finally, to the Disneyland Railroad, trains have been a part of the Disney story all along.
All of that to say that the theme of ‘Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway’ could not be more appropriate! The classic elements incorporated into this attraction pay tribute to the decades of Mickey & Minnie Mouse history that came before it. Will you be one of the first to ride ‘Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway?’
