‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Composer Calls the Film “Exhaustingly Funny”
Deadpool & Wolverine has officially arrived in theaters, and the film is getting rave reviews.
While the film’s action, comedy, and heart have all been lauded, critics have also taken special note of the latest Marvel film’s score.
The man behind the Deadpool & Wolverine score is composer Rob Simonsen, who has frequently collaborated with director Shawn Levy.
Simonsen Says the Film Is “Exhaustingly Funny”
During a recent appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Simonsen was asked if he felt any additional pressure scoring Deadpool & Wolverine, knowing that the weight of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was on his shoulders.
“Marvel really supported Shawn and Ryan making their film, and we had recently done ‘The Adam Project.’ It was a very tight-knit experience with the two of them,” said Simonsen. “It was no different on this. So I felt very protected and shielded from the weight of it.”
After noting that the third Deadpool film is “exhaustingly funny,” Simonsen explained that his focus was on “shooting for the stars — not really thinking about trying to satisfy some corporate agenda, but rather just thinking about what I want to feel.”
“Really, my job was just to make myself feel fun. Every day, it was just trying to make myself laugh.”
Simonsen and Levy Never Met in Person
Interstingly, despite their long-time relationship, Simonsen also revealed that he never actually met with Levy in person while working on Deadpool & Wolverine.
“It was scored completely over Zoom and FaceTime,” Simonsen said. “That tends to be how it is with Shawn. He and I have just gotten into a groove.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters now.
