A Vintage Space Mountain Ride Vehicle Sold for an Astounding Amount at Auction
Disney fans got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own an authentic piece of Disney history last week when the Joel Magee Auction, Part 2, took place.
Hosted by Van Eaton Galleries, the auction featured ride vehicles, Audio-Animatronics, and ephemera from both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

The auction was comprised of the collection of Disney-related memorabilia collected by South Florida resident Joel Magee, who had decided to disperse his collection. Initially, his collection started with purchases at charitable events in Orlando. He would later appear on Pawn Stars, among other shows.
The Highest-Fetching Item
When the dust on the auction settled, the highest-selling item was a refurbished ride vehicle from Walt Disney World’s Space Mountain.

“This vehicle preserves the original body and interior of a three-seat Space Mountain rocket on a custom-recreated chassis,” the auction’s catalog reads.
Initially estimated to sell for between $15,000 and $20,000, the vehicle ended up fetching $43,500.
