Would You Work from Home at Disney?
During the pandemic, a fascinating behavior unfolded.
Virtually overnight, American workers suddenly realized they could do their jobs anywhere.

Since almost everyone operated under a government mandate to work from home, they expanded their horizons.
Not coincidentally, the housing market in Central Florida exploded as people swarmed to the region.

Since then, the market has cooled some as corporations claw back some worker rights, asking people to return to the office at least some.
Still, a recent report highlights the fact that some lucky people perform their jobs while visiting Disney.
So, would you work from home at Disney? Let’s discuss the options, as well as the pros and cons.
About Work from Home at Disney
NBC News recently posted this article, the latest in a post-pandemic line of interviews with the world’s happiest employees.
No, I don’t mean Cast Members, although we could definitely lump some of them onto the list.

While Disney pay remains an ongoing debate, plenty of workers choose to be Cast Members to spread joy into the lives of others.
While their generosity is commendable and, to me, heroic, that’s not the kind of Disney work we’re discussing today.

Instead, we’re referencing work from home (WFH) where you travel to Orlando and combine work with play.
In 2020, this option proved viable as many gainfully employed people moved to Central Florida.
Since then, countless companies have altered their policies somewhat, asking people to return to the office multiple days each week.
In some instances, people have left Orlando due to these changes.
Others have found new jobs rather than leave the friendly confines of the Disney Bubble.
Some may question making a professional decision based on one’s love of Disney, but fans like you and me get it.

The thought of marrying our work life with our Disney fandom is an ideal way to find happiness.
You can earn the money you need to pay for your Disney obsession.
Also, rather than wait for your Disney countdown to reach zero, it’s always there because you’re at Disney!

This answer varies depending on profession and job duties. So, I’ll speak generally here.
In many instances, people split their workday and Disney visits just like an employee would anywhere else.
During the day, you do your job, which hopefully provides you with a sense of personal satisfaction and professional achievement.
Once the clock strikes 5 p.m. (or whenever), your workday ends, and you can do whatever you want.

Where you live now, you probably find entertainment by heading to clubs, bars, and restaurants.
You participate in hobbies that fit your personality and lifestyle.
The same premise applies to Disney WFH employees, but the difference is that Disney is your hobby.
Once your workday ends, you head to the parks, which are conveniently less crowded later in the evening.
The tourists have tired out and returned to their hotels for the evening, giving you the run of Walt Disney World.
So, you can catch the fireworks and enjoy your favorite rides, knowing that your job was well done earlier in the day.

You’ve earned this perfect slice of happiness during a park visit.
Of course, others take a different approach, which I’ve used as well.
Some of us work while we’re at Disney, which isn’t an impossibility.
Thanks to ample WiFi and smartphone hotspots, you can take your job with you wherever you go.
You may never think about it when you’re visiting as a tourist, but you should glance around the next time you’re in a Disney sitting area.
One or two people may have their phones or even their laptops out as they quietly work in the background.
With many jobs, as long as you have internet access, you can achieve your daily tasks.
Cons of WFH at Disney
That’s not to say that WFH at Disney is easy. On the contrary, it can sometimes prove problematic.
While WiFi is ample, outages sometimes occur due to clogged networks and bandwidth issues.
Similarly, some cellphone carriers work better at Walt Disney World than others.
If you’re stuck with one that struggles, you may not be able to use your personal hotspot.

Those are just the tech challenges, too. You’ve been to Walt Disney World and know how hard it can be to find a quiet spot.
Imagine how that feels when you’re facing a deadline and need some peace and quiet!

For this reason, I find WFH substantially more challenging at the parks than in the hotel.
I’ve written dozens, possibly even hundreds of Disney articles while staying at Disney hotels.
I cannot think of a single instance when I wrote a piece while out in public.
So, when I read the NBC News piece about the person who performs their job duties at Connections Café, I’m deeply impressed.
I don’t possess that much focus, especially not when I’m sitting that close to Spaceship Earth.
In my experience, that’s the biggest con of WFH at Disney. The park distractions get in the way of work.

I must train myself to ignore all the magic happening around me to finish my assignments.
However, I’ve only attempted this in rare instances. It very well could be a skill we all can learn after enough training.
Then again, do you really want to learn how to ignore all the wonders happening at Walt Disney World? Yeah, me neither.

This one’s self-explanatory. You’re at Disney!
WFH at Walt Disney World or Disneyland is like living the dream.
As soon as you finish your job for the day, you can do whatever you want at The Happiest or Most Magical Place on Earth!
Who wouldn’t want to do that? You’ll maintain constant access to all the Disney attractions and experiences.

A Taste of Food & Wine Festival in 2020
When a new festival or after-hours event opens, you’re already there to enjoy it, and your job ensures you can pay for it.
Even better, Disney theme park food is the gold standard, and much of it is affordable.

During festivals, you can hang out at EPCOT and eat and drink to your heart’s content.
When a new attraction like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens, you’re among the first to experience it, something you’ll never forget.

Similarly, when Disney releases a hot new popcorn bucket or Lug bag, you’re likely to buy it before it sells out.
In short, you’re living a Disney life even though you technically work for someone else. It’s ideal.

Let’s be realistic that only certain jobs fit well with WFH at Disney.
You must work in or choose a new career where WFH isn’t going away.

Here’s a link to the latest stats on WFH in America. As you’ll see, roughly two-thirds of companies don’t even offer WFH.
These organizations view the pandemic as a one-time-only thing rather than a trend.
Thankfully, some industries are a bit more forward-thinking.
Specifically, working in tech raises your odds of getting a remote job.
Finance and professional services are other industries in which few care where you are as long as you get the job done.
To a larger point, many different fields are careening toward tech anyway. Moving forward, that industry’s probably your best bet.
