David Krumholtz Explains Why He Wanted To Play The Thing in the MCU
When the cast of Marvel Studios The Fantastic Four was announced earlier this year, there was perhaps no one more disappointed than Oppenheimer star David Krumholtz.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Krumholtz discussed his public campaign to play Ben Grimm/The Thing in the MCU and elaborated on why the character means so much to him.
“I grew up reading Marvel comics obsessively and they saved me. I think, for a lot of young people, you emulate superheroes, you wish you had those powers, you wish you were somehow able to save people,” he explained.
The MCU Was a “Dream Come True”
For Krumholtz, the advent of the MCU was a “dream come true.”
“I’m an empath, so that felt good to me. I loved every aspect of it. When the MCU happened, the satisfaction in seeing the actual costumes and seeing what they could do and do it accurately and authentically, it was exactly my dream come true. When you read those comics, it’s hard not to imagine them as films, and they did it. They did it really, really well. It was emotional, for me.”
Krumholtz Still Wants to Join the MCU
While Krumholtz will not get a chance to play The Thing, the actor has no ill will towards Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who won the role.
Moss-Bachrach will do “an amazing job with that,” Krumholtz says.
Additionally, The Santa Clause star still hopes to join the MCU. Previously, he has mentioned Mole Man as a character he would like to play. Hopefully then, Krumholtz gets his wish, and we will see him in a Marvel Studios film soon.
