An ‘Epic Mickey’ Remake Is Coming For the Nintendo Switch
Epic Mickey fans will soon get a long-awaited opportunity to return to Wasteland. Nintendo and Disney are teaming up for a remake of the classic Mickey Mouse game Epic Mickey: Rebrushed.
Announced during the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase today, the new Epic Mickey game will be a “faithful remake of the beloved classic” for the Nintendo Switch.
The original Epic Mickey was released for the Nintendo Wii in 2010 and was lauded for its stories, characters, and game design.
At the same time, however, the game’s controls and camera were derided by critics.
More Than Just Improved Graphics
According to Nintendo, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed will not only feature updated graphics but also new skills for Mickey Mouse!
“Along with updated graphics and other improvements, Mickey Mouse’s abilities have been improved with a whole new set of skills and more. For fans of the original and new fans alike, get ready for an adventure of truly epic proportions when Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed launches on Nintendo Switch this year.”
A sequel to Epic Mickey titled Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two was released in 2012, but the game sales failed to live up to expectations.
The poor reception to The Power of Two effectively ended the franchise. Junction Point Studios, which developed the series, closed on January 29, 2013, and Disney Interactive Studios would eventually shut down in 2016.
At this time, we do not have an official release date for Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. The game, however, is expected to land this year. Ahead of the game’s release, Nintendo has released a trailer for the game. Check it out now!
