James Gunn Talks Possible ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4’
While Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 was advertised as the end of the road for the intergalactic superhero team, the film’s ending left open the possibility that the franchise may not be over yet.
Guardians 3 ends with Rocket Raccoon leading a new iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, comprised of Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, and Phyla, on a new mission.
The film’s ending, along with Marvel’s assertion that Star-Lord will return, has led many to wonder if a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 may be on the horizon.
While Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana have confirmed they are not returning and James Gunn has jumped ship for the DC Universe, the Guardians’ story may not be over yet.
James Gunn Would Love To See The Guardians Continue
In a recent post on Threads, James Gunn revealed that he would be happy to see the franchise continue, even if it is without him.
Kevin [Feige] and I are on great terms,” Gunn said. “Although a few characters aren’t coming back, I’d love for GotG to continue with the current members and I’d trust Kevin to pick the right person for that.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. was one of the few bright spots for Marvel in an otherwise disappointing 2023. While it remains to be seen if fans will turn out for the new iteration of the Guardians, Marvel may not want to give up on a lucrative franchise.
Whether the new-look Guardians return as supporting characters in a Star-Lord solo adventure or set off on their own, it sounds like the franchise may not be over after all.
