April 7th was a huge day in Disney history, with the release of a classic movie, the opening of a Disney-MGM Studios attraction, and the groundbreaking for a new Disney Park. So, let’s get started!
The Ugly Duckling Released (1939)
On this day in 1939, the Silly Symphony cartoon The Ugly Duckling was released.
Based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen, the short told the story of an outcast duckling who turns out to become a swan.
Wonder Dog Released (1950)
On this day in 1950, the Pluto short Wonder Dog was released.
In the cartoon, Pluto imagines that he is a circus dog as he tries to win Dinah’s affections.
The Lone Chipmunks Released (1954)
On this day in 1954, the Chip ‘n’ Dale cartoon The Lone Chipmunks was released.
In a spoof of the Lone Ranger, the chipmunks must catch Peg-leg Pete after he robs a bank.
A Goofy Movie Released (1995)
On this day in 1995, A Goofy Movie was released.
In the film, after Max makes a promise to his crush Roxanne, Goofy drags him away from their date on a father-son road trip.
Captain EO Closes (1997)
On this day in 1997, Captain EO closed at Disneyland.
The film starred Michael Jackson as an intergalactic hero. The film had originally opened in 1986.
Who Wants to Be A Millionaire- Play It! Opens (2001)
On this day in 2001, Who Wants to be a Millionaire- Play It! opened at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The attraction was based on the popular TV game show, and gave away real Disney prizes.
Expedition Everest Opens (2006)
On this day in 2006, Expedition Everest opened in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The park’s first roller coaster, the attraction brings guests face to face with the fabled Yeti.
Shanghai Disney Resort Groundbreaking Ceremony Takes Place (2011)
On this day in 2011, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for Shanghai Disney Resort.
The ceremony featured Mickey Mouse, Bob Iger, Tom Staggs, and Chinese dignitaries.
Andi Mack Premieres (2017)
On this day in 2017, Andi Mack premiered on the Disney Channel.
The series starred Peyton Elizabeth as Anti, a young teen navigating life with the help of her family and friends.
Remember…. Dreams Come True Ends (2018)
Finally, on this day in 2018. Remember…Dreams Come True was performed for the final time at Disneyland.
The fireworks show originally debuted in 2005 for the park’s 50th anniversary.
