Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 6.
April 6th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still had the debut of a new Mickey Mouse cartoon, a new attraction in Epcot, and introduction of “the terror that flaps in the night”! So, let’s get started!
The Castaway Released (1931)
On this day in 1931, the Mickey Mouse cartoon The Castaway was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey is washed ashore on a desert island. There, he finds a bunch of bananas and a piano.
The Blue Ribbon Bakery Opens (1990)
On this day in 1990, the Blue Ribbon Bakery opened on Disneyland’s Main Street.
The new bakery replaced the Sunkist Citrus House.
Darkwing Duck Premiers (1991)
On this day in 1991, Darkwing Duck premiered on The Disney Channel.
The show starred Drake Mallard and his crime fighting alter-ego Darkwing Duck. The series was a spinoff of DuckTales.
The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros (2007)
On this day in 2007, the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros opened in Epcot.
The new ride featured Donald Duck, Jose Carioca, and Panchito as they tour Mexico. The ride replaced El Rio del Tiempo in Epcot’s Mexico pavilion.
Pixar Pals Countdown Ends (2013)
On this day in 2013, the Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun parade ended its run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The show originally debuted in 2011.
Disney Channel Rocks Ends (2013)
Also on this day in 2013, the Disney Channel Rocks street shows ended at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The street show debuted in 2010.
