Disney Announces Marvel: Phase 4 Movie Releases
We’ve got some fantastic weekend news for all you Marvel Fans! As many of you comic fans already know, this weekend was San Diego Comic-Con and Marvel’s Kevin Feige was on hand to share with us the next round-up of Marvel releases dubbed Phase 4. The list is an exciting combination of already anticipated films as well as a few surprises!
Let’s a look at the Phase 4 line-up so far:
Marvel’s Schedule for Phase 4
- May 1, 2020: Black Widow
- Fall, 2020: Untitled
- Nov. 6, 2020: The Eternals movie
- Feb. 12, 2021: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
- Spring, 2021: WandaVision Disney Plus series
- May 7, 2021: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
- Spring, 2021: Loki Disney Plus series
- Summer, 2021: Untitled
- Fall, 2021: The Falcon and Winter Soldier Disney Plus series
- Nov. 5, 2021: Thor 4: Love and Thunder
Black Widow
This film has already generated a lot of buzz and MickeyBlog can confirm that it is slated for release on May 1, 2020. In the Marvel timeline, the film will take place AFTER the events in “Captain American Civil War.” The film will star Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz. The film will be directed by Cate Shortland and is written by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Fans of Thor will be delighted with the news that the latest instalment in the franchise is slated to be released on November 5, 2021. Though it seems a ways off, some things are worth waiting for as we can confirm that Chris Hemsworth will be making a return as will Tessa Thompson and wait for it…Natalie Portman will be playing the role of Lady Thor! We can also confirm that the film will be big on humor with Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) returning to the director’s chair!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Little has been revealed so far about the sequel to Doctor Strange. However, we do know that Benedict Cumberbatch will return in the title role which will also star Elizabeth Olsen. Scott Derickson will also be returning as director. The film is slated to be released on May 7, 2021. Scott Derrickson told guests at Comic-Con that this would be the first scary MCU film with the events of TV series (WandaVision) tying directly into the film.
Eternals
For those unfamiliar with the Eternals, they are immortal cosmic entities who resemble characters from classic Greek mythology. The film is slated to be directed by Chloe Zhao with a screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Also here are some casting news you’re all sure to love – Angelina Jolie who we recently revealed will be reprising her as Maleficent in the sequel will also be starring in the upcoming Marvel release as Sersi. She’ll be joined by Salma Hayek (Ajax), Richard Madden (Ikaris), Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo Sunen, Bryan Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgameshnd Lauren Ridloff as Makkari. The film is slated for a February 2021 release.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
As many Marvel fans already know Shang-Chi is a master of kung fu and the film is slated to be the first fully Asian-led film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton with David Callaham writing the script. The film is slated to premiere on February 12, 2021 and will follow Shang-Chi’s battle with the Mandarin. In the lead role will be Canadian actor Simu Liu. Tony Leung will play the Mandarin and Akwafina has signed on for a yet unannounced role.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Moving on to television, this is the first of a few Marvel-based TV series that are slated to premiere on the Disney+ streaming network. We can expect this offering in the Fall of 2020. The series will star Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and Daniel Bruhl as Barron Zemo.
WandaVision
Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising her role as the Scarlet Witch in this TV series. Marvel has confirmed that it will arrive in the Spring of 2021.
Loki
Fans of Thor’s adopted brother and anti-hero Loki will be pleased to know that the character played by Tom Hiddleston will be getting his own series on Disney Plus beginning the Spring of 2021.
Blade
As a special treat for fans, Marvel also announced that Blade will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio revealed the film will star Mahershala Ali in the title role. Though it’s uncertain whether this will be a cinematic release or a Disney+ offering, it’s awesome to see Blade (previously played by Wesley Snipes) once again be in the game.
But that’s now all of course! Though the panel at Comic-Con concentrates specifically on Phase 4 releases, guests should also remember that there’s also a slew of other Marvel releases on the horizon. This includes “Black Panther 2,” “Guardians of the Galaxy 3,” “Captain Marvel 2” and “The Fantastic 4”
