Tasty Treat Tuesday – Tropical Mousse Cake
Welcome back to Tasty Treat Tuesday here at MickeyBlog.com!
We all know that Walt Disney World is known for its iconic eats – popcorn, pretzels, ice cream and even Mickey waffles. HOWEVER – did you know that the theme parks are about SO much more than those classic well-loved treats? Each week, I’m ready to show you a unique tasty treat and where to find it on your next Disney vacation!
So, come join me on this weekly journey to find your new favorites! It’s time to create a new tradition!
Tasty Treat: Tropical Mousse Cake
Trees are budding and flowers are blooming. Spring has officially arrived! And when that comes to theme parks, it is time for Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival. Would you believe that this event turns 25 years old this year!?! Over time, this event has slowly blossomed (ha – get it? Blossomed?) into one of Epcot’s most well-loved guest favorites! The 2018 festival commenced on February 28th and runs all the way through May 28th. So, in honor of Epcot’s Intl’ Flower & Garden Festival, we are going to feature my favorite Tasty Treat available this year – Tropical Mousse Cake!
What is it?
Layers of Passion Fruit Cake, Coconut Mousse and a Tropical Fruit Glaze. Served with Fresh Pineapple.
Why try it?
Months of cold, frigid rain and/or winter snow are perfect for hearty warm and heavy foods to fill the belly and provide warmth from the inside-out. Pies, cobblers, and bread puddings are the perfect warm treat for those cold winter months. By Spring, though, I am SO ready to enjoy something fresh and light. The Tropical Mousse Cake is the perfect “welcome to Spring” treat! Each layer is a perfect balance of mousse and cake and the jelly glaze topping provides a gorgeous sheen. It is Instagram-worthy. But not only is it pretty, it tastes as good as it looks. The passion fruit cake is moist and airy with a slight tang from the tropical passion fruit flavor. Coconut mousse adds a soft whipped cream fluff to each layer of cake, filling the tiny airy texture of the cake sponge. The nutty coconut is subtle, but balances the tart passion fruit perfectly. Finally, that glaze is not just for looks. It adds a nice texture to the otherwise soft cake. Fresh pineapple could easily be considered a garnish to be discarded. Instead, layer it on top of the glaze for a refreshing fruity bite that will transport you to Island paradise. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
Where can I find it?
Tropical Mousse Cake is located at one of the many food booths located throughout the World Showcase during Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival. LA ISLA FRESCA is my booth of choice which is located in Showcase Plaza. This spot is serving up all sorts of island flavors and is the perfect option to grab a light and refreshing bite on a Sunny Florida day. Added bonus for guests on the Disney Dining plan – you can use a snack credit for this treat! So, instead of stocking up on Goofy-shaped gummy bears for the plane ride home, why not use a snack credit to try this amazing Tasty Treat?
In addition to food booths, the International Flower & Garden Festival features a variety of seminars, tours, gardens, topiaries. It truly is a paradise for the eyes and the belly. Looking for more info on this festival? Check out our article here for more details!
