This Day in Disney History- January 16
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney company! Today we are looking at this day in Disney history- January 16!
January 16th featured the debut of a fan favorite show, the release of a popular sequel, and the beginning of a yearly Walt Disney World tradition! So, lets get going!
The Village Smithy Released (1942)
On this day in 1942, the Donald Duck cartoon The Village Smithy was released.
Directed by Dick Lundy, this short features Donald as an exasperated blacksmith who is trying to shoe a donkey named Jenny.
Son of Flubber Released (1963)
On this day in 1963, Son of Flubber was released.
A sequel to the Absent-Minded Professor, the film saw Fred MacMurray reprise his role as Professor Ned Brainard. Once again the inventor gets himself into trouble with his experiments on gravity defying substance!
The First Walt Disney World Marathon Held (1994)
On this day in 1994, the first annual Walt Disney World Marathon took place!
In what would eventually become a yearly tradition, runners from around the world raced passed several resorts and through all three parks on their marathon run.
Disney’s Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular Debuts (2003)
On this day in 2003, Disney’s Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular debuted at Disney California Adventure.
Performed inside the Hyperion Theater, the Broadway style show would prove to me a massive success. The show would run until January 2016 before finally closing.
Teacher’s Pet Released (2004)
On this day in 2004, Teacher’s Pet was released in theaters.
Based on the popular animated television series, the film starred Nathan Lane, Kelsey Grammer, Debra Jo Rupp, David Ogden Stiers, and Jerry Stiller.
Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! Debuts (2011)
On this day in 2011, the Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! parade debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The new parade replaced Block Party Bash as the park’s daytime parade. The new procession featured popular Pixar characters.
