Celebrate Three Years of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
We’re taking time today to celebrate three years of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Three years ago today, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World just a couple of months later.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the “land” at the park. Batuu is the planet where it is located. Black Spire Outpost is the location.
Disneyland opening
When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland Park, many Star Wars icons were on hand to christen the new land.
Bob Iger, then CEO of The Walt Disney Company, first welcomed George Lucas to a stage in front of the Millenium Falcon.
Then Billy Dee Williams, aka Lando Calrissean, spoke to the excited crowd.
Next came Mark Hamill – Luke Skywalker himself!
Chewbacca appeared next – in the cockpit of the Milennium Falcon, fulfilling his role as co-pilot.
Finally, Harrison Ford – our favorite scoundrel, Han Solo – took the stage and really revved up the crowd as he gave the Millenium Falcon a fix-it punch.
Galaxy’s Edge offerings
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is enormously popular with guests. Even guests who aren’t die-hard Star Wars fans are awed by the immersive experience.
This land offers two thrilling attractions: Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
Guests have a chance to fly the Millennium Falcon on a thrilling interactive smuggling mission.
You’ll be in the cockpit as either a pilot, engineer or gunner.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Join the Resistance in an epic battle against the First Order on Rise of the Resistance.
This ride is a massive attraction with multiple ride systems that is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced at a Disney park.
Special shops
Black Spire Outpost hosts multiple shops that have lots of interactivity.

Build your own lightsaber
Kids and adults alike love building their own lightsaber. You do this at Savi’s Workshop.
This experience must be booked in advance – beginning 60 days before your park visit.
You get to customize your lightsaber according to different themes.
Custom lightsabers cost $219.99 plus tax.
Budget around an hour (maybe a little more) to build your lightsaber. You can bring one guest with you.
Build your own droid
Head over to Droid Depot to build your own droid – as a BB, C or R series robot.
Like lightsabers, you have to book your droid building session in advance. Ask your MickeyTravels agent to book this for you.
Custom astromech droid units cost $99.99, plus tax.
This takes around an hour and you can bring one guest with you.
Batuu food
The food on offer is delicious! Head to Oga’s Cantina for blue milk and adult beverages.
Oga’s requires reservations – so book that reservation 60 days in advance of your trip.
I recommend checking out Ronto Roasters for a heartier meal. This is a quick-service location.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
For a supremely immersive experience, book a two-night adventure on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World.
