Could An Encanto Attraction Be in the Pipeline?
If there’s one trend we’ve seen lately, it’s Disney looking to captialize on its popular films at the theme parks. Just over the last few years we’ve seen a Frozen ride at EPCOT, a Princess and the Frog overlay coming to Splash Mountain and a Guardians of the Galaxy coaster. With the runaway success of Disney’s Encanto it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to think that a Disney attraction that celebrates the family Madrigal would be in the works.
In the interview with The Wrap, Lin-Manuel Miranda spoke about talking to new Disney CEO Bob Chapek. Miranda recalls, I talked to him and said, “I know there’s a world in which this casita lives in a theme park and we get to actually walk through it in real life.”
Miranda went on to say that fan art from around the world has been showing him and others involved with the film that Encanto is capturing the imaginations of Disney fans of all ages and that there’s more of the story that could be told. Miranda adds, “I don’t know what form that takes. I don’t know if that’s an animated series. I don’t know if that’s a second movie. I don’t know if that’s a stage adaptation where we have a little more time to go deep. I think it’s all possible, but we had no conversations about what they actually are.”
When the interviewer pushes Miranda on whether or not he is fully on board with the possibility of an Encanto attraction, the songwriter said, “There have been really no conversations about what is the next form for the Madrigal family.”
However, it is clear that Miranda has toyed with the possibilities of the family Madrigal being featuring in their own ride. During another point in the interview he remembers a family trip to Disneyland saying, “Well, I took my kids to Disneyland for the first time pre-pandemic a few years ago. And we sat through The Little Mermaid thing five times in a row. That’s where my brain goes. It’s like, I want to go in and out of this casita and see those characters and see the house respond because that’s something Disney can do that no one else can do.”
With such a magical enchanted home and characters that people around the globe have fallen in love with, we love the idea of an Encanto attraction at a Disney park in whatever form that may take. Like Miranda, all of us here at MickeyBlog HQ are certainly open and look forward to the possibilities!
For those unfamiliar, “Encanto” tells the story of a family in Colombia at the turn of the 20th century, each of whom is gifted with a magical ability … all except awkward Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz). The film was released in theaters on Thanksgiving and then on Disney+ a month later. Since then it has been nominated for three Oscars and its soundtrack has topped the Billboard charts.
With that in mind, we reported yesterday, that Disney will be re-releasing the film in theaters starting THIS WEEKEND! You can check out the trailer below:
