7 Amazing Ways to Pass the Time at Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom
Yesterday, Dinsey celebrated the anniversary of two of its beloved Tomorrowland attractions, the thrilling Space Mountain and iconic Carousel of Progress. Though most visitors to Walt Disney World tend to gravitate toward Fantasyland during a visit to the Magic Kingdom, we here at MickeyBlog think there is so much to love about Tomorrowland’s futuristic offerings. From amazing eats, cool merchandise and fun attractions here are 7 reasons why we think you’ll want to pass an afternoon at this iconic area of the park.
1. Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover
Amidst the hustle and bustle of a theme park visit, it’s nice to set aside some time to sit back, relax and take in your surroundings. For many Disney regulars, the People Mover is just the ticket. This ride comes in at an impressive 10 minutes and takes guests on a narrated indoor and outdoor journey through Tomorrowland. During this journey, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of some of Tomorrowland’s most popular attractions including Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Mickey’s Star Traders and more.
2. Tomorrowland Light and Power Co.
This retail located next to Space Mountain is your one-stop-shop for those looking for personalized MagicBands and phone cases. Here visitors have the option of creating your own special MagicBand by choosing from an array of band colors, designs and more. The bands can even be printed with your names on the outside and can be used during future Walt Disney World visits. The process of creating your unique Disney Work of art is pretty streamlined with special fast-drying printers meaning you shouldn’t have to wait around for too long before picking up your purchase. The shop also allows you to design your own Disney-themed phone case to show your Disney-love all year round.
3. Carousel of Progress
This is the perfect attraction for Disney historians. This 20-minute rotating show features animatronics and was first created by Walt Disney for the 1964-1965 World’s Fair. The attraction takes you through technical innovations starting with the turn-of-the-century right up until the modern age. Though the length of the show may make little ones restless. It is a great option for those looking for a way to relax and unwind in the Orlando heat. It also features one of the catchiest songs you’ll find on an attraction which we guarantee you’ll be singing for the rest of the day!
4. Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies
This is one of my favorite places to stop for a frozen treat while at the Magic Kingdom. One the menu you’ll find ice cream, smoothies and ice cream floats that are simply delicious. Throughout the year you’ll also find seasonal and themed treats so keep be on the lookout. You never know what amazing goodies will turn up on the menu!
5. Meet Buzz Lightyear
Though meeting the characters at the all-new Toy Story Land really packs in the crowds, guests hoping to rub shoulders with Buzz Lightyear may find it easier to pop by Tomorrowland. Buzz is usually on hand near Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin to meet visitors, pose for photos and sign autographs. He’s typically out at 20-minute intervals from 10:00 am – 4:45 pm each day!
6. Space Mountain
This indoor coaster is an absolute classic having opened in the Magic Kingdom back in 1975. During this intergalactic thrill ride you’ll board a rocket and blast off into space during an indoor coaster ride that you’ll never forget. Most of the thrills come from the fact that the ride is completely dark making it hard to anticipate all of the fantastic twists, turns and drops! We guarantee this is an attraction you’ll want to ride again and again but with lines typically in excess of 60 minutes, it’s a good use of a FastPass!
7. Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe
With lots of seating and tasty menu items, this quick service restaurant is a Magic Kingdom mainstay. Three are three bays serving up a variety of dishes including pulled pork, cheeseburgers, chicken and more. I highly recommend the Strawberry Lemonade Slushy as well as the Sunny Eclipse dessert. Though there is ample outdoor seating, for a special treat see close to the animatronic in the main indoor dining hall. Sonny Eclipse offers a 20-minute stage show which is a delightful combination of sing-along-worthy tunes and funny one-liners.
