Disney Marathon Weekend Medals Revealed
As Disney Parks Blog continues to countdown to the beginning of the 50th anniversary celebration at the Walt Disney World Resort, runDisney joined today revealing this year’s Walt Disney World Marathon medals. After all, there are only 26 days left until “The Most Magical Celebration on Earth” begins! (Just .2 miles short of a marathon.)
This year’s runDisney medals certainly embrace the EARidescent theme of this year’s 50th celebration. The runs promise to showcase the incredible storytelling and scenery developed throughout the resort over the past five decades. Each race medallion celebrates a different classic Disney icon.
Golden Medals Galor
WIth a 5k, 10k, half marathon and full marathon on the schedule, runners can accumulate quite the array of medals. All of the options, including those for the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge and the Dopey Challenge, feature two unique images. The half marathon and marathon even rotate from within. Those running the 26.2-mile marathon, celebrate with Mickey and his beloved, Minnie.
True to traditions past, Donald graces the half marathon medal with Daisy joining him on the reverse side. All of the medals feature immense amounts of shining gold, a hallmark of the 50th motif.
Though the 10k and 5k medals do not rotate from within, they do feature two distinct sides with Oswald running through EPCOT on the 10k medal, and Pluto celebrating his finish of the 5k.
The Goofy Race and a Half challenges runners to complete both the half marathon on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday during the incredible weekend. Those who complete this feat go home with a true collection of Mickey and his pals as they receive the full and half marathon medals as well as this radiant Goofy medal. On the front side, Goofy even spins to show his excitement.
The ultimate challenge of the weekend, the Dopey challenge, also brings one of the most sparkling medals that runDisney has ever released. The 48.6-mile challenge pushes runners to the limit, requiring them to complete all four races to earn this incredible celebration of all things Disney parks (and gold).
Marathon Registration Still Open
Run weekend kicks off on January 5th and continues through the marathon on the 9th. Limited availability for the marathon and the Dopey Challenge still exists, so make sure to check out the runDisney website as soon as possible.
