Disney’s “Moana” Breaks Billboard Chart History Record, Surpassing “Frozen 2”
Disney’s Moana has just made history, now holding the title for the longest time spent at Number 1 on the Billboard Soundtracks chart!
The @DisneyMoana soundtrack has now spent 52 total weeks at No. 1 on the #Soundtracks chart.
It passes the @DisneyFrozen 2 soundtrack for the most weeks spent at No. 1 in the chart's history.

That’s right, according to Billboard the soundtrack to the Disney animation has resided at the top spot on the charts for a whopping fifty-two occasions since its release in November 2016. And no-one knows how far it’ll go!
This impressive feat has broken the chart record currently held by Disney’s Frozen 2, whose soundtrack includes smash-hits such as ‘Into the Unknown’, ‘Some Things Never Change’ and ‘Lost in the Woods’.
This is huge news for fans of Moana!
The songs in Moana were written by Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina, and Lin Manuel Miranda, with lyrics sung in a mixture of English, Samoan, Tuvalu, and Tokelayuan languages.
The songs are performed by the stars of the movie, including Dwayne Johnson, Auli’i Cravalho, Jermaine Clement, Rachel House and others, as well as recordings by Opetaia Foa’i and Lin Manuel Miranda themselves.
The soundtack also features performances by the New Zealand-based vocal group Te Vaka, a choir from Fiji, and many other Polynesian vocals and percussion elements.
The soundtrack is compiled of some incredible songs, from the catchy “You’re Welcome” to the powerful “I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)”.
Possibly the movie’s best-loved (and most-played!) track is “How Far I’ll Go”, which received a nomination in the Best Original Song categories at both the 89th Academy Awards, and the 74th Golden Globe Awards. Impressively, Moana was also the first-ever Disney movie to be dubbed in the Hawaiian language.
Earlier this year, Disney released the first sneak peek for their upcoming movie Encanto.
Also featuring music composed by Lin Manuel Miranda, we can’t wait to hear the soundtrack to Encanto, and wonder whether it will top even more music charts!
If you have been following MickeyBlog and our coverage of Disney Parks news, you will know that an upcoming attraction inspired by Moana is set to arrive in EPCOT at Walt Disney World.
Although little has been revealed about what ‘Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana‘ will feature, we hope that the music of the movie will play a big part in the experience!
We are thrilled to see the soundtrack to Moana doing so well in the Billboard charts, and hope that the movie continues to be a shiny and successful smash-hit.
