Fiege Alludes to Harkness’ MCU Return Before Too Long
She’s insidious and so perfidious. Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness certainly had a profound presence upon her arrival to the MCU this March in the Disney+ original series, “WandaVision.” Recently, Marvel President Kevin Feige may have given us a clue to when the purple magic witch will return.
“We were all fans of [Kathryn Hahn] at Marvel Studios. And she had come in for a general meeting coincidentally right around the time we were trying to cast Agnes-slash-Agatha,” Feige said in a Rotten Tomatoes interview. He first spoke about how Hahn was originally cast.
“It was one of those, ‘Why didn’t we think of this before?’ Louis D’Esposito [co-president of Marvel Studios] actually sat down and had a general [meeting] with her. And it very quickly went from that: She’s great. What could she do for us someday? Anyway, who’s going to play Agatha? We really have to cast this part. Wait a second … It was honestly almost exactly like that,” Feige added.
Hahn previously voiced the Marvel villain Doctor Octopus for Sony’s “Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse.” Given the timing of that film in 2018, it’s possible that this “general meeting” was actually something to do with that movie.
When will Agatha return?
The big question still stands though. When will Hahn return to the MCU?
“One of the great things in building the MCU is seeing audiences respond to characters that they were not expecting or that they were not asking for. I wouldn’t say there was a huge contingency of people banging down the door for Agatha Harkness to appear in the MCU, but she’s a great character portrayed by a great actress,” Feige said in the interview. “And by the first few episodes people are asking, ‘Where is she going to show up again? What else is she going to do?’”
If you look at the upcoming projects, there are a few candidates. First would be “Spiderman: No Way Home”. Hahn has an existing relationship with Sony and that project seems to have tons of secret roles and connections to other franchises.
Even more likely would be “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” However, there have been no announcements or notes on the cast list yet there. Given the characters popularity, one can assume that they would not keep her a secret.
On the Disney+, side she could fit into “Moon Knight”, “Secret Invasion” or even “She-Hulk.” Who wouldn’t want to watch a big green lawyer defend Agatha in court?
For anxious fans, Feige concluded the interview with the typical Marvel cryptic clue.
“Someday. Someday soon. You will see Kathryn Hahn in ‘Knives Out 2’ next, then maybe an assortment of other things. But within the MCU, it can’t come soon enough. Let’s put it that way,” Feige said.
This is more confirmation than we normally get from the Marvel leader. Though, we will have to wait a little longer to get our Agatha fix.
