Couple Whose Wedding Postponed Twice Due to COVID Marry on ‘Good Morning America,’ Receive Surprise Honeymoon to Aulani
It was finally a “Happily Ever After” for Army Major Jose Perez and Heather Hataway Miranda. The sweet couple was forced to cancel their wedding twice due to COVID but ending up marrying on “Good Morning America” and even received a surprise honeymoon to Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii!
Perez and Amanda were married in Chicago last week during a live taping of “Good Morning America” on ABC. Host of the top-rated morning show, Michael Strahan, served as the officiant.
After so many delays to their wedding, Miranda said, “I’m just so glad that we’re healthy and we’re here.”
During the ceremony, the happy couple exchanged their own personal vows.
“I promise to love you and to have faith in your love. I vow to make you laugh out loud and laugh with you, cry grow and create with you, and to be faithful,” Miranda said in her vows. “I am proud to become your wife and partner and to join my life with yours, forever.”
“I waited for 50 years to find true love. On that fateful night, you captured my heart and soul and I fell in love with you,” said Perez. “I want to forever hold, cherish, foster and protect that love.”
Miranda and Perez originally met back in 2018 by chance. Perez was invited to a friend’s party at first but when he arrived and first laid eyes on Miranda, their lives changed for ever.
“Our eyes started locking and he started flirting and winking and smiling,” Miranda recalled.
After the party ended, they kept the night going with a stop at the shore of Lake Michigan and it is there Perez realized he had met the love of his life.
“I said, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to have this woman in my life,'” he said. “I knew that she was the one.”
Perez couldn’t wait to start the rest of his life with Miranda and her 5-year-old at the time son, Jade Leo. He proposed just six months after their first meeting on the shore of Lake Michigan. Little did he know at that time they would be back on the water later on during their honeymoon to Aulani.
“I was very nervous, like most people. I was trying to surprise her,” said Perez, who proposed to Miranda overlooking the spot where they first fell in love. “I said, ‘It took me 50 years to find you. I can’t find any other way than to ask you to marry me.'”
Perez and Miranda were chosen to get married live on “Good Morning America” and receive the free honeymoon to Aulani as part of a joint-effort between the USO and the daytime morning show as part of National Military Appreciation Month.
Once the exchange of vows was complete, singer-songwriter Ne-Yo was on hand to provide a surprise performance and serenade the couple.
Congratulations to the happy couple! Enjoy your honeymoon at Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii. I couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate!
