Ming-Na Wen Celebrates Over 20 Years in the Disney Family
Ming-Na Wen has been a staple within the Walt Disney Company family for 20 years and it’s about time we celebrate the successes she has achieved over the years.
Wen got her start with the Disney company voicing the role of Mulan in the 1998 block-buster which showed little girl’s everywhere that being a princess and a warrior are one and the same.
Mulan was revolutionary. Centered on the heart and determination of one of Disney’s greatest princesses; the film was about strength, but more specifically, answering the call, and earning that strength.
It was funny, it was inclusive, it was thrilling, and at points, it was a jolt of realism to a generation of young people who didn’t quite understand the horrors of war.
Wen’s ability to bring bravery, occasional uncertainty and undeniable strength to the role of Fa Mulan is a staple of Disney film history that will never be overlooked. Her contribution to the legacy of that film can never be overstated.
Wen then went on to bring the character Melinda May to life in the ABC Marvel series Agents of Shield. A show set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actress brought to life the love interest of Marvel favorite Phil Coulson, and all-around competent agent in her own right.
Wen has carried the role of Mulan into the world of Kingdom Hearts; portraying the character In the critically accompanied and beloved video game series. She has also lent her voice to characters in the adored Disney animated series Sophia the First, and in the 2018’s Ralph Breaks the Internet, a sequel to the smashingly successful Wreck-It-Ralph.
Her contribution doesn’t stop there, as Wen has once again made her mark with Disney with her work in the acclaimed Disney+ series, The Mandalorian.
Wens’ Fennec Shand is an eagle-eyed, Sniper wielding, bounty Hunter who fans can catch going head to head with Din Djarins Mandalorian in season one of the series, to being partners with the revered Boba Fett in season two.
The prominence of Shand’s role in the Star Wars universe- especially their continued exploration into the various live-action series- will be seen in her role in the newly announced Bobba Fett centered series The Book of Bobba Fett and the animated Clone Wars series The Bad Batch.
Ming-Na Wen has been an actress that has taken part in some of our favorite films, whether we’ve known it or not, we at Blog Mickey feel like it’s time to celebrate her 20+ years of dedication to the stories that we hold so dear.
