Russo Brothers Give Live-Action Hercules Update
Bless my soul, Herc is on a roll! Earlier this year, we here at MickeyBlog shared the news that Disney was working on a live-action adaptation of Hercules. Recently the film’s producers, Joe and Anthony Russo (of Avengers: Endgame fame) shared an update in an interview with Collider.
During the interview the Russo Brothers teased the following:
“We have an incredible writer on it, Dave Callaham, and he’s off on script. We should be seeing something in the next week or two, I think. We’re keeping that all under wraps for now. We want the audiences to have some discoveries about what’s fresh about our take.”
One of the big questions that Disney fans have been wondering is whether there was going to be music involved in the production (like Jungle Book or The Lion King) or whether this element would be scrapped like live-action Mulan which came out earlier this year.
According to Disinsider, The Russo’s addressed this in the interview saying that music would be involved but that the film WILL NOT simply be a live-action translation of the film.
“Well, I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our perspective as storytellers, it’s not compelling for us to do a literal translation. We’ve already done that with our Marvel films. We don’t do literal translations of the comics because we feel like if you want that story you can go read that story. We’re going to give you a different story. I think we’ll do something that’s in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring some new elements to the table. We can’t say one way or the other. Music will certainly be a part of it.”
All in all this is looking like a mighty promising film. David Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984) has been working on the script meaning that even with musical numbers the film will be action heavy.
As of going to print no director has been announced. Along the same lines, it is still early days for cast. However, this is a story that we’ll be following closely. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us for further news and updates!
