Joe Rodhe Lauds COVID-19 Take On Be Our Guest
For a few generations now, the song “Be Our Guest” has been a Disney staple. Heck, even the acclaimed Disney customer service manual is named, Be Our Guest.
But in an age where following and enforcing rules has Walt Disney World adding the following to “Know Before You Go”:
To enter a park, both a park reservation AND valid admission for the same park on the same date are required for each person in your party ages 3 and up (limit one park per day). Acceptable face coverings must be worn over your nose and mouth at all times except in designated areas. If you’re unable to do this, please reschedule your Walt Disney World visit to a later time.
Words that even our own Disney Parks vlogger Greg Antonelle has echoed in his streams; paraphrased: “If you can’t follow the rules, don’t come to the park.”
Wear A Mask Takes Off On Twitter
Meanwhile, a somewhat more PG-13 take on the sentiment was recently admired via Twitter by uber Imagineer Joe Rohde:
“This is so extremely well done,” said Rohde. “And I’m a sucker for proper scansion in parody songs.”
And if you’re like me, you’ll need this:
Meanwhile, based on the current state of the pandemic, Disneyland continues to be shuttered based on the spread of COVID-19. California continues to keep “a slow and steady wins the race” approach to reopening its theme parks.
And, through much of it, Walt Disney World has led the way — around the nation (frankly) — based on the following principles.
- Temperature Checks;
- Hand-washing;
- Social-distancing;
- And mask-wearing.
Hopefully, the essential message of the song — “Wear a mask…” — isn’t lost on the politics.
For the purposes of this site, the essential message of simply following the rules when you decide to head to the parks is one that isn’t lost on someone who is literally stuck at home because of comorbidity.
If you are lucky enough to be able to make it to Walt Disney World. “Wear a mask…” and enjoy the park for the rest of us.
