The Disney Archives Bust Out ‘Angels in the Outfield’ Memoribila For D23 Day at Angels Stadium
In just four days, D23: The Ultimate Fan Event will kick off in Anaheim, bringing fans from around the world together to celebrate all things Disney.
With unique panels, special events, exclusive merchandise, and a sneak peek at the future of the Disney Parks, this year’s D23 will be an event to remember.
To get fans excited for the big weekend, Disney is celebrating in a multitude of ways. One of the more exciting events was yesterday’s D23 Day at Angel Stadium, where D23 members got ticket discounts to the Los Angeles Angels game, a Mickey Mouse bobblehead, and a chance to see memorabilia from Disney’s Angels in the Outfield.
‘Angels in the Outfield’
As a child of the 1990s, I have a special place in my heart for Angels in the Outfield.
Released in 1994, the baseball film tells the story of a young boy named Roger whose prayers are answered when angels descend from heaven to help the California Angels win the pennant.
The film featured a star-studded cast that included Christopher Lloyd, Danny Glover, Tony Danza, and future stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adrien Brody, Matthew McConaughey, and Neal McDonough.
Watching the film now, Angels in the Outfield takes me back to a simpler time when Disney owned sports teams, baseball reigned supreme, and Buena Vista Pictures Distribution.
A Blast From the Past
With that in mind, I am awfully jealous of those in attendance at yesterday’s Angels game who got to see props from the classic baseball film.
Among the items featured were the iconic baseball telephone that Maggie can’t seem to hang up, a George Knox jersey, and more!
They even had a glove, bat, and ball used by Danny Glover in the film!
After all these years, it’s great to see that the Walt Disney Archives still has these props. Even better, they are willing to share them with the public.
Visitors attending this year’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Event will also be privy to historical items from the Disney Archives. I can’t wait to see what they have cooked up!
