‘Kindergarten: The Musical’ Will Bring Broadway-Style Musical Numbers to Disney Junior
Disney Junior is set to bring the magic of Broadway to the small screen with the new series Kindergarten: The Musical.
The series will follow the adventures of 5-year-old Berti and her friends as they start school for the first time at Porter Elementary. Differentiating the series from other shows will be the Broadway-style song and dancer numbers that will provide a sneak peek into the kids’ imaginations.
“The series follows 5-year-old Birdy, who, with the help of her amazing teacher and new friends, uses her imagination to express her fears, excitement and joy through big Broadway-style song and dance numbers, proving that kindergarten is just like a big stage and there is nothing a good song canβt fix,” the show’s synopsis reads.
Each Episode Will Include Multiple Musical Numbers
Michelle Lewis, Kay Hanley, Dan Petty (who collectively wrote the songs for Doc McStuffins), and Charlton Pettus (of Tears for Fears fame) wrote the songs for Kindergarten: The Musical. Each episode will include multiple musical numbers.
Kindergarten: The Musical will feature star-studded appearances by Gina Torres, Aloe Blacc, Ana Isabelle, Leona Lewis, and Vincent Rodriguez III. The regular cast includes Andrea Rosa Guzman as Berti, Zander Chin as Radish, Leah Newman as Rose, Shyam Balasubramanian as Tej, Tandi Fomukong as Abigail, Kailen Jude as Kenji, Randy Perrine as Jamil, and Alice Halsey as Kat and Ellie.
Also making Kindergarten: The Musical unique among Disney Junior’s lineup is the fact that the show will occasionally switch from CG (when the characters are in the real world) to 2D animation when the setting changes to the characters’ imagination.
