Chris Hemsworth Gives an Update on His Marvel Future
One of the biggest questions looming over the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is what plans Marvel has for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.
Following the massive success of Thor: Ragnarok, it looked like Marvel had finally found the right formula for its Thor films. Infused with Taika Waititi’s signature humor, Thor: Ragnarok allowed Hemsworth to stretch his comedic chops and show another side of the God of Thunder.
Unfortunately, when Waititi and Hemsworth tried to recapture their magic for Thor: Love and Thunder, the film fell flat. While fans loved the humor and irreverence in Thor: Ragnarok, for many, Love and Thunder was a bridge too far.

The constant jokes and irreverent tone of the fourth Thor film undermined any real stakes that the movie presented and destroyed its emotional narrative.
Hemsworth Says He Became a Parody of Himself
Reflecting on the film, Hemsworth would later claim that he became a parody of himself.

“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” he says. “I didn’t stick the landing.”
In recent months, Hemsworth has been open about the fact that he would like to play Thor again.
“I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character,” Hemsworth told Entertainment Weekly last year.

“If an audience wants to see it, and if there’s something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great. I’ve loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don’t have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable.”
Will Thor Return?
With the Avengers set to reassemble for the upcoming Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars, it looks like we will see Hemsworth again.

Disney
During a recent appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, however, Thor told ComicBook.com that he had not heard anything about his character’s future yet.
“Hey, mate, I have loved every second working in the Marvel Universe and if there’s more to come then I’m excited about it. Nothing official yet,” Hemsworth confirmed. “I’m sort of waiting for the phone call and, and waiting for the news to see, let’s see what happens. But, you know, I love it.”
With Marvel reportedly bringing 60 characters back for Avengers 5, it would be shocking if Hemsworth does not turn up again as Thor. For now, though, it looks like nothing definitive is in the works.
