Have You Heard These Disney Lies?
We live in strange times, as the internet has become a haven for misinformation.
Even a couple of popular Disney sites and social media channels are in the business of misleading fans.

Roughly six weeks ago, MickeyBlog brushed away some nonsense regarding Tinkerbell. Since then, the tall tales have kept on coming.
Have you heard these utterly ridiculous Disney lies? I’ll explain why each one is untrue.
Disney Wants to Charge Guests for Bathroom Usage
While you guffaw at this notion, let’s quickly discuss the basics of disinformation campaigns.
These lies come in two forms, one of which is more innocuous than the other.
Disney satire sites and social media feeds exist because the company is so popular and storied.
For more than a century now, Disney has entertained guests. So, it’s a big target due to its iconic brands and stories.

Satire comes with the package. Any company that big will receive some well-intended poking from humorists.
Then, we have the second kind of disinformation, which is much more malicious.

Walt Disney Company
Some people intentionally misrepresent every Disney story to paint the company in the worst possible light.
In one extreme example, a Disney site misleads the public about such stories so often that Snopes has a special section about them.

I cannot imagine the humiliation of knowing that a fact-checking site holds you in such low esteem. But that’s what we’re discussing here.
People make up stuff about Disney all the time, much of it for entertainment. In other instances, something more nefarious is in play.

TikTok
Fortunately, this story is a sillier one. According to a TikTok account, Disney will start charging guests to use the bathroom.
The post suggests that #1 would cost $1 while #2 would cost $2, which is frankly a sentence I never expected to write.

In case the humor of this wasn’t clear, the TikTok added that guests were wearing diapers to Disney parks to save money.
All of this is pure nonsense for any number of reasons, but I’ll acknowledge that this one is at least funny.
Imagine parents changing the diapers of their kids and then Cast Members billing them.
A Titanic Boat Ride?

Boat Transportation to Disney Springs
Okay, here’s my favorite one of the bunch, possibly because a couple of these are too scatological.
Anyway, a TikTok the day before April Fool’s Day suggested that Walt Disney World was adding a new boat ride.
Specifically, Disney would theme the attraction to Titanic. In case you’re too young to remember, that’s a James Cameron movie.
More than 25 years ago, teen girls swooned over this romantic drama wherever Jack fell for Rose during a cruise.

Then, their boat sank, he froze to death so that he could save her, and her heart went on forever.
For a long time, Titanic was the biggest blockbuster of all-time, only ceding its spot to another James Cameron movie, Avatar.

Even now, 27 years later, Titanic remains the fourth-larger box office performer ever, and that infernal Celine Dion song remains in heavy rotation on streaming.
Titanic was every bit as culturally impactful in 1997-1998 as Avengers: Endgame was five years ago.

Disney didn’t release Titanic, which ostensibly makes this boat ride idea impossible…but it’s not.
When Disney acquired most of Fox’s assets, it gained part of Titanic in the transaction.
Importantly, Disney also maintains a close working relationship with James Cameron and executive producer Jon Landau.
So, this is ostensibly something that could happen, but it won’t.

That’s because such an attraction would be in extremely poor taste.
Remember that the Titanic wreck was a very real thing that happened, with most passengers dying.

As such, the fictional romance of Jack and Rose doesn’t overcome the tragedy of the real-life catastrophe.
Then, from a financial perspective, we have the consideration that Disney doesn’t own rights to that infernal Celine Dion song. It wouldn’t be cheap.

Finally, Magic Kingdom just added a new boat ride. Maybe you heard…
The Colonoscopy Shop at Disney?!
This rumor kinda made me cringe, and I’ll be transparent about the why of it.
Last month, Snopes performed a rumor killer on a different satirical post.
In this one, Mickey Mouse Colon House would open on Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom.
That’s a hysterical mental image to me and also not that unrealistic a possibility in that there is a medical building here.

According to the post, Disney wanted to heighten colon cancer awareness by encouraging checks.
The idea is that you visit Magic Kingdom, and while you’re there, you get your colon checked.

Entrance gates
In an instance of remarkable timing, I can tell you that this story is utter nonsense.
I say this because I recently had a colonoscopy and spent a regrettable Sunday evening in the inescapable Hell of colonoscopy prep.

Gatorade
You pour Gatorade into a cup and mix it with this vile, gritty substance.
Then, you chug eight ounces of it every fifteen minutes for an hour.
Afterward, let’s just say that if you were paying to use the bathroom at Disney as the other rumor suggested, well, there goes your vacation budget.
Somehow, that’s not even the worst part. Three hours later, you do it all again.

Folks, I threw up at least eight times that evening – past a certain point, I lost count – and then I spent the morning at the hospital.
The medical team gives you an anesthetic that knocks you loopy, and you’re out for an hour.

That’s NOT something you would do during a Disney vacation. However, once you reach the age of 45, it’s a smart thing to do.
My doctor found six benign polyps, which means I’ll be doing this every three years for a while…but it sure beats colon cancer!
Be healthy, my many loves.
Disney Closed Tiana before the Ride Even Opened

This bit of nonsense is probably my favorite of 2024 to date.
In early June, right around the time MickeyBlog was riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, someone claimed the absurd.
According to them, everyone hated the ride that nobody had ridden yet. So, Disney canceled it.
Here’s us loving every second of our ride experience:
And here’s us covering the official opening date of the ride, which went exceedingly well.

Also, here’s our Facebook livestream showing all the euphoric guests that morning.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is an instant classic. Anybody who says otherwise is trying to sell you something.
