‘Inside Out 2’ Propels AMC To Its Best Weekend of 2024
Following the soft debuts of highly anticipated films, including If, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Garfield, many were quick to proclaim that movie theaters were dead.
As it turns out, those obituaries may have been written prematurely.
Thanks in no small part to Pixar’s Inside Out 2 delivering the second-biggest domestic opening for an animated film of all time, AMC theaters has reported that Saturday, June 15, was their busiest day of 2024.
A Record-Breaking Weekend
Amazingly, AMC actually set their high water mark on Friday, only for that record to subsequently be broken on Saturday. Overall, more than one million people visited AMC theaters on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
In total, 3.8 million people in the United States visited theaters Thursday through Sunday. Internationally, attendance was up 10% year over year.
AMC CEO Credits ‘Inside Out 2’
Reflecting on the numbers, AMC CEO Adam Aron praised the mass appeal of both Inside Out 2 and Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
“Once again, the moviegoing public has demonstrated that the magic of the movies and the theatrical experience is alive and powerful,” he said.
“While at first glance Inside Out 2 and Bad Boys: Ride Or Die appear to be very different films, they share a strong crossover in that they both were made specifically for the big screen and expertly marketed to a theatrical moviegoing audience. The results of those efforts were in full force this weekend.”
With Inside Out 2, Pixar has not only released its biggest hits in years, but it has also proved that the movies aren’t dead yet.
