The Cast of ‘The Bear’ Previews Season 3
FX’s The Bear has proven to be an undeniable hit, dominating the streaming ratings and sweeping award shows.
As easily FX’s most popular comedy, all eyes are on the series and its stars as The Bear prepares for its Season 3 debut on Hulu on June 26, 2024.
Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in the hit series, admitted that the cast knows that the pressure is on for the series to live up to its first two seasons.
“We were just coming off the success of awards season, so I was very anxious,” White admits. “I knew the scripts were strong… but the pressure is very real. After a couple of weeks of being around [the cast] and our beautiful crew, everything fell back into place.”
What Will Season 3 Entail?
In Season 3 of The Bear, Carmy, Syd (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and their crew will look to elevate their restaurant once again. When tensions rise, however, things begin to boil over.
“I think Carmy does what he [always] does: He buries himself into his work and really tries to challenge himself. In doing so, he really challenges everybody around him—and becomes quite challenging to be around, as well,” White explains.
In order to motivate both himself and the crew, Carmy creates a list of “non-negotiables” and urges the team to “push boundaries” and “constantly evolve through creativity.”
According to Edebiri, the cast also had a list of non-negotiables, although theirs was much more manageable.
“Be nice to each other. Learn your lines. Show up prepared. Stay hydrated,” she said with a laugh.
A New Chapter in Carmy and Syd’s Relationship
Season 3 of The Bear will see Carmy offer Syd a partnership agreement that will have the two working together as equals.
“One of the things this season deals with is what that means to Sydney and what that next step means for her relationship with Carmy,” Edebiri says. “Carmy is somebody she really looked up to…but it’s a lot more chaotic than she might’ve idealized before they really started working together.”
Carmy, however, is not the best communicator.
“He will often make a grand gesture like that…I think that’s his way of reaching out. But oftentimes, people aren’t prepared to receive. He’s got a lot going on in his mind all the time, and people aren’t always aware of what’s going on,” White explains. “You’ll see how that affects Carmen and Syd’s relationship.”
Grief Remains a Reoccuring Theme
Amid all the changes in Season 3, Edebiri says that the concept of grief will continue to run through the series.
Moss-Bachrach agrees, noting that the show’s handling of grief may be its biggest strength.
“Grief is the river that runs through all of us; it’s maybe one of the only things that we all share in the human experience. That continues [in Season 3]. Everyone deals with it in their own way—or not,” he explains.
Despite the heavy topics that The Bear tackles, Moss-Bachrach says behind-the-scenes things remain light.
“The workplace feels very safe and warm. When you feel supported that way and taken care of, you feel entitled to dig deeper, to share more personal things, and to take risks.”
Season 3 of The Bear will premiere on Wednesday, June 26, at 9PM ET.
