Chris Hemsworth Slams Marvel Actors Who Have Bashed the MCU
Outside of perhaps Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, there is perhaps not a bigger movie star in the superhero genre than Chris Hemsworth.
After debuting as the God of Thunder in 2011’s Thor, Hemsworth would go on to reprise his role as the jovial Asgardian in seven other MCU films, including 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.

During that time, Hemsworth has seen the highest of highs that the genre has to offer (Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok) and the lowest of lows (Thor: Dark World). Despite being open about the fact that portraying Thor has not always been easy, Hemsworth has lauded Marvel for the opportunities it has given him and the joy that the franchise has brought to millions of people around the world.
Hemsworth’s Defense of Marvel
In a recent interview with The Times, Hemsworth defended Marvel from its Hollywood critics, including Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.

“It felt harsh,” he said. “And it bothers me, especially from heroes. It was an eye-roll for me, people bashing the superhero space. Those guys had films that didn’t work too — we all have. When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?”
“Humility Goes a Long Way”
While Hemsworth bristled at the noise coming from outside the Marvel family, he had harsher words for actors like Christian Bale and Idris Elba, who have starred in the MCU, only to rip the franchise apart afterward.
“It’s, like, ‘They’re films that are successful — put me in one. Oh, mine didn’t work? I’ll bash them,’” he began.
Interestingly, Hemsworth applied the wisdom he gleaned while working on the Australian sitcom Home and Away to the Marvel situation.

“Look, I grew up on a soap opera,” Hemsworth explained. “And it used to bother me when actors would later talk about the show with guilt or shame. Humility goes a long way. One of the older actors on ‘Home and Away’ said, ‘We don’t get paid to make the good lines sound good, but to make the bad ones work.’ That stuck with me.”

While it remains to be seen whether or not Hemsworth continues Thor’s story in the MCU (he seems open to the idea), one thing is clear — the God of Thunder has nothing but thanks for the stories he has been able to tell.
