Created by A.A. Milne, millions of fans around the world honor this sweet bear every year on January 18th. Today also happens to be the author’s birthday.

Who is Winnie the Pooh?
A beloved literary figure, a snuggly bear, and a now-popular Disney character. Winnie the Pooh first appeared in the book “Winnie-the-Pooh” by A.A. Milne in 1926.
The books are based on Milne’s son (Christopher Robin) and his stuffed animal collection. However, Pooh Bear is actually inspired by a black bear named Winnie from the London Zoo.

The series quickly grew in popularity and 3 more books followed with more adventures and introducing more characters.
Many of Pooh’s adventures take place in the Hundred Acre Wood where we were introduced to his friends Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore. These themes of friendship and “life adventures” are a common thread in the stories.

Winnie the Pooh is very much engrained in our popular culture. He appears in television, on merchandise, and is featured in attractions at the Disney parks.
The combination of his clever wit, relatable nature, and gentle demeanor has appealed to children and adults over many generations.
Milne was able to successfully bring to life the story of Pooh and his friends while providing simple and profound lessons on friendship, loyalty, and overcoming challenges. Topics that are relatable to every generation.
Pooh’s stories range from light-hearted adventures to more serious topics of sadness loss, and grief.
