A Florida Man Is Suing Reedy Creek Over an Alleged Faulty Disney Springs Elevator Ride
An Osceola County man is suing the former Reedy Creek Improvement District after an elevator ride at the Disney Springs’ Orange Parking Garage last year went wrong.
In the lawsuit, Michael Johnson alleges that he took the elevator in July 2022 during a trip to Disney Springs with his daughter.
While inside the lift, the elevator dropped several feet “suddenly and without warning, then stopping abruptly, before forcefully shaking, and dropping again.” Eventually, it made it to the fifth floor. During the fall, Johnson alleges he was “slammed down.”
What Johnson is Suing For
The lawsuit claims that Johnson suffered “bodily injury in and about his body and extremities, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, permanent and significant scarring mental anguish, loss of the capacity for enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care, loss of earnings, and loss of the ability to earn money in the future.”
He is accusing Reedy Creek of failing to maintain the elevator properly, which he says led to the incident. The special district, the lawsuit says, “breached the duty owed to patrons.”
After the harrowing experience, Johnson is seeking over $50,000 in damages. It is unclear from the filing what injuries Mr. Johnson sustained.
As the Reedy Creek Improvement District is no more, responsibility will fall to the newly formed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) who will be the defendant in the case.
