Orlando International Airport to Add Allegiant Airlines Flights Next Year
Orlando International Airport will expand its roster of airlines next year with the addition of Allegiant Airlines.
The low-cost carrier will begin offering three routes to MCO next summer. New routes at MCO will include Asheville, North Carolina from Asheville Regional Airport, Allentown Pennsylvania from the Lehigh Valley International Airport, and Knoxville, Tennessee from McGhee Tyson Airport.
All routes are expected to begin in May. One-way fares will range from $49 and $59 according to the airline.
MCO Continues to Add Flights
Greater Orlando Aviation Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Kevin Thibault confirmed that the airline would be coming to Orlando.
“Allegiant reached out to us as they were looking to expand clearly their presence here in Central Florida,” Thibault told reporters at a press conference Thursday.

Thibault added that the expansion of Allegiant Airlines further solidifies MCO as the top provider of non-stop domestic flights in the state.
“That has always been the hallmark here at MCO,” Thibault said.

With the addition of the three Alligenet routes, MCO will now have 111 nonstop flights.
What About Orlando Sanford International?
Interestingly however, Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB), which is located 30 miles north of MCO, serves as one of the largest bases in Allegiant Airlines’ network.

That airport has 66 Alligiant routes, including the three routes that will also now fly into MCO.
According to Sonya Padgett, the Alliegent Routes at SFB will not change.
“The addition of these flights into MCO will allow us to increase capacity from these locations,” Padgett said.

In the end, the more options that travelers have, the better. I, for one, am glad to see MCO expanding its roster.
